La OPEP ve al alza el pronóstico de la demanda de petróleo para 2022
La OPEP dijo el jueves que la demanda mundial de petróleo podría aumentar aún más este año, ya que la economía mundial registra una fuerte recuperación de la pandemia, un acontecimiento que sustentaría los precios que ya se encuentran en un máximo de siete años. La escasez de suministro de petróleo también ha dado impulso a los mercados energéticos en auge, y el informe de la Organización de Países Exportadores de Petróleo también mostró que el grupo no cumplió con un aumento de la producción de petróleo prometido en enero bajo su pacto con los aliados.
En el informe, la OPEP dijo que esperaba que la demanda mundial de petróleo aumentara en 4,15 millones de barriles por día (bpd) este año, sin cambios con respecto a su pronóstico del mes pasado, luego de un fuerte aumento de 5,7 millones de bpd en 2021.
«Prevalece el potencial alcista del pronóstico, basado en una fuerte recuperación económica observada en curso con el PIB que ya alcanza los niveles previos a la pandemia», dijo el informe de la OPEP en un comentario sobre la perspectiva de la demanda para 2022.
«Como se espera que la mayoría de las economías mundiales se fortalezcan, las perspectivas a corto plazo para la demanda mundial de petróleo son ciertamente buenas», dijo la OPEP en un comentario separado sobre la demanda de 2022.
Se espera que el consumo mundial supere la marca de los 100 millones de bpd en el tercer trimestre, en línea con la previsión del mes pasado. Anualmente, según la OPEP, el mundo utilizó por última vez más de 100 millones de bpd de petróleo en 2019.
La OPEP consideró desde el principio que el efecto de la variante del coronavirus Ómicron sería leve, y el informe dijo que no ha tenido un impacto económico tan negativo como las oleadas anteriores de COVID-19.
El petróleo LCOc1 subió después de que se emitió el informe, cotizando por encima de los 92 dólares el barril. El lunes alcanzó los 94 dólares, su nivel más alto desde octubre de 2014.

El informe también mostró una mayor producción de la OPEP a medida que el grupo y los no miembros aliados, conocidos como OPEP+, retiran gradualmente los recortes de producción récord establecidos en 2020.
La OPEP+ ha apuntado a aumentar la producción en 400.000 bpd por mes, con alrededor de 254.000 bpd de los 10 miembros participantes de la OPEP, pero la producción ha aumentado menos que esto, ya que algunos productores luchan por bombear más.
El informe mostró que la producción de la OPEP en enero aumentó solo 64.000 bpd a 27,98 millones de bpd.
Siete de los 13 miembros de la OPEP tuvieron una caída en la producción, entre ellos Venezuela, Libia e Irak.
El principal exportador, Arabia Saudita, aumentó la producción en 54.000 bpd según el informe, pero Arabia Saudita le dijo a la OPEP que hizo un aumento mayor de 123.000 bpd que elevó su producción a 10,145 millones de bpd.
El pronóstico de crecimiento para el suministro general fuera de la OPEP en 2022 se mantuvo sin cambios, al igual que para la producción de petróleo de arenas compactas de EE. UU., otro término para esquisto.
La OPEP dijo que espera que el mundo necesite 28,9 millones de bpd de sus miembros en 2022, 100.000 bpd más que el mes pasado y, en teoría, permitiría mayores aumentos en la producción.
